Camp Activities
Camp promises to be
very special family event this year with many planned group activities,
age appropriate workshops, and Filipino market offerings. (More
details below!) We will also be providing you with some
appetizing lunches and an opportunity to explore SMR's
recreational activities with
other families from camp!
|
 |
Group Activities:
|
We will kick off the 2007 FHC
on Thursday evening, August 9th with a pot luck meal. This gives everyone a
chance to complete the registration process, pick up their family bags
(which include the traditional camp T-shirts), share a meal, and visit with
friends from previous camps as well as get to know new families and
counselors. This year's camp will build up to an active,
fun-filled Saturday evening for your entire family entitled the "Night
in the Philippines". We will also have a Merienda Social where the kids will put
on a dance performance for the adults (and maybe get a you up on the dance
floor too). |
Kids Workshops:
|
These age appropriate
workshops are designed to emphasize the Filipino culture. Workshops
this year will include
music, dance, making crafts that you can display at home, popular Filipino
sports and games. Our enthusiastic
Children’s Workshop Coordinators will have lots of wonderful activities
planned for the kids again at FHC
2007.
Teens will also have
an opportunity to participate in various activities on the SMR grounds
that may include a rope challenge course, zip lines, and other recreational
pursuits.
|
Adult Workshops:
|
Workshops for adults are
designed to allow parents to learn more about their child's culture, provide
information and support on adoption issues, as well as other areas of
interest. Workshops this year will include cooking classes, adoptee
panel discussions, and information about daily living in the Philippines. |
The Market:
|
Each year FHC has a
market available where camp participants may purchase culturally relevant
merchandise including books, dolls, toys, household décor items, and
clothing. Once again in 2007 we will have people who are traveling to
The Philippines purchasing items especially for our market. Our market
co-coordinators have done a phenomenal job of finding “treasures” for
everyone and are working hard to line up more for this year’s market.
|
Food:
|
You will never go hungry
while attending Filipino Heritage Camp. One of the
lunches will be of traditional Filipino
custom, where there is wonderful Filipino food prepared by camp participants under
the direction of our wonderful Food Coordinators and the FACC. For the
other lunch, we will serve a lunch common to all Americans, including
Filipino Americans. |
Merianda:
|
We have traditionally
ended camp with a Merienda. Merienda is a traditional afternoon
gathering in The Philippines. Since FHC is a family camp, Merienda
gives us an opportunity to be together as families to close out camp in a
relaxed, fun-filled and festive tradition.
